Famous last words: Reflecting on the class a month in

This week and last, I feel like I've fallen a little bit behind in this course — I've only been able to do half-units for each of the readings this past week, and I've missed a few assignments throughout the past few weeks. I haven't left myself enough time to complete these assignments and have strayed from the course schedule set up for me at the beginning of the semester.

This week, I'm going to make sure I leave myself enough time to do all the readings, because the storytelling assignments are much easier when I have more reading material to work with.

I did my best writing this week (really, last week) for The Daily — I'd been working on a story for a long time about the renaming of DeBarr Avenue, and took photos and made a video for it as well. I was really proud of how it turned out, and I was happy with my writing, but I tend to procrastinate on bigger projects like that, so my coursework last week suffered a little as a result.

Things are going OK in my other classes! I'm in another online class I've really been enjoying — it's called Women Creating Social Change, and the professor is Jo Anna Wall. I think our textbook for the course is really fascinating. These past few weeks, we've been reading and writing about racism within feminism, which I think is an important thing to be aware of. My capstone class is starting to pick up speed, so I'm working on narrowing down my research topic for the semester. I want to study social media and its role in journalism, but I need to get a little more specific.

This coming week, I want to spend less time catching up on classes I'm behind in and more time getting ahead, and I think that's a reasonable goal for the week. (Also, this is a nice assignment. I think I'm going to start doing these reflection posts more regularly!)
